CAFÉ LAB

Breeding socially responsible young entrepreneurs.

Pasay City North High School (PCNHS) is a government institution where students are mostly from below the lower middle-income families. Poverty almost always is the main cause children drop out of school.

In 2018, Grameen Pilipinas Microfinance, Inc. (GMPI) initiated a social business project with Telstra Foundation Philippines, Inc. to help families of Senior High School students of PCNHS improve their earning capacity and see their children through graduation and a more promising future.

Through experienced instructors from the De La Salle – College of St. Benilde’s School of Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management, students and their parents underwent training in basic baking and entrepreneurship. The final output was the set-up of a Cafe Lab within PCNHS where students interned while providing the school community with well-prepared and nutritious baked products. Start-up capital was also made available to their families to kick off their home-based pastry production.
